Carded wool yarns

Carded wool yarns
As its name suggests, carded wool yarn is produced by passing the wool first through a carding machine. The purpose of carding is to remove as many short fibres and as much dirt as possible. In addition, carding aligns the fibres to a certain extent. However, not all fibres can be aligned in exactly the same direction, which creates the coarseness typical for carded yarn.
Use of carded wool yarn
Carded wool yarn is a versatile wool yarn suitable for various crafts. It is at its best in everyday clothes and accessories, such as mittens, hats, scarves, jumpers and so on. Carded wool yarn maintains its structure and does not pile easily. Carded wool yarn is also great for socks, particularly if reinforced by nylon. In weaving, carded wool yarn can be used both as a warp thread and a weft thread in traditional woven textiles, such as shawls, traditional quilt fabrics and so on. Its tendency to felt can be utilised in products for machine felting. Carded wool yarn felts in a beautiful manner, evenly and softly.
